The War

Water balloons, squirt guns, cannons, and water gun mounted vehicles. Everyone starts at a corner of the yard, then rushes into the middle to grab their weapons of choice! With the power wheels later mounted with water cannons and running at a whopping 6 miles an hour; This one almost made history books.. Not a single person was left dry that day. (Disclaimer: 90% of children will form an alliance right in the beginning of the game, Adults are not safe.)

Growing... Candy?

That's right, lets grow some candy! Rock candy has been around since the 18th century and for good reason. It is surprisingly simple to make and exciting for your kids; this also can double as a chemistry lesson for them! (well, lets face it, they are only interested in eating it but i tried..)

You'll need a chopstick and something to hold it across the rim of the cup (you'll see in the pictures), a jar or tall glass, about a cup of water, 3-4 cups of sugar, and food coloring (optional).

Bring the water to a boil then slowly dump the sugar in about a 1/2 cup at a time, continue doing this until the sugar stops dissolving as much. Let sit for 5 minutes. While that is sitting, take and wet the chopstick and coat most of it in sugar. Dump solution into the cup then slowly submerge the coated chopstick into the cup staying about an inch from the bottom (I used clothespins to hold it up).

Then let it sit for 5-7 days and you just grew some candy!

The Water Park

Who says that your yard can't be turned into a water park? With a sprinkler, a couple of old unused sandboxes, a small pool, and the slide off the play set; We turned the yard into an adventure! Always remember, especially with pools and slides, safety first!

Crash into the water!!

Rush out into the sandbox! (well.. "waterbox" now.)

 Rinse and repeat! (Literally)

And there you have it, hours of fun for your kids!

The Cheapest Toy Money Can't Buy... Mud.

The Cheapest Toy Money Can't Buy... Mud.

Yes, you heard me right, the dreaded mud. We spend all of our time trying to keep our kids organized, calm, and most of all, Clean. Just find yourself a nice rainy day, get out there and get full of mud, you may be surprised by how much fun they have with good old nature.

Sure, Lets Act Ridiculous

"Why did you do that?"
The question we tend to ask our kids when they do something ridiculous. The answer? Don't bother looking for one, because your kid doesn't know either. Back to our "kid impulse" conversation, when kids look at something they do the first thing that comes to mind for the most part, and for them it's a fun idea so they tend to work on that impulse.. because in fact, our little crazy people are wired for fun my friends. so parents let the "Kidpulse" flow through your brain! (Just don't break anything)

Climb a hallway? What the heck lets try. (great workout by the way)

You want to sleep where?! .... Yeah alright..

So you want me to make cardboard shields so you can beat me up with foam swords... Well i guess i could get hit with worse things..

Moral of the story here folks? I can't explain the thought process on any of these photos, not a single one... but hey, we had a ton of fun, and that's what life is all about.

Involvement

The glue that holds bonds together; allowing your kids to be directly involved in the things you do, whether they are a huge part of it or want to just observe. Though things can take longer and can become more difficult because they want to help, ask questions, or see how things work. The impact it makes on them is huge. They learn, problem solve, work as a team, and look up to you and how you can do all of this great stuff!

Like gardening!

Or cooking!

Building a box fort to eat ice cream in!

Or building a couch fort to read stories and camp out in the living room!

Toy Box Gamble

Here is a simple and effective way to put some entertainment together without too much effort; go into your kids room(s) and pick a few things out of their toy boxes. Bring them into the other room and with your kids create a story and play it out based on the items gathered!

Here's our crazy story of a nerf bunny, fisherman Jack Skellington, and a dragon slayer!

Share your adventure with us!

Live The Moment

To really invest yourself into what your doing with your children you need to become a child. Now why is that so hard to do for most of us? Well its simple. As adults it is very hard for us to change linear habits and live in moments notice like children. We have our daily routines, we have to work and support households all day every day, and the only way to deal with that stress is to have our adult mindsets and priorities in check. Now with children, that's a whole different ball game.. Children are fight or flight all the time and they live completely in the moment, they are little wound up balls of good and bad emotion and they wear it on their sleeve, that is just how they are wired. The faster we understand that the better life is, we need to understand that they in fact do not understand just how much goes into what we have to do, and they wont, and they shouldn't have to; they see what is in front of them and live that moment.

So live the moment, Just forget your an adult for a couple hours with them.

Lost In Space

Well it seems our first adventure is the far reaches of our galaxy to defeat some sort of alien menace! With the help of some cardboard boxes from the basement, tape, and bubble wrap; we have ourselves a space ship and hours of fun! (Nerf guns are a plus)

Welcome To The Blog!

It is my goal to offer and share creativity the same way I do with my family. Lets face it, parenting is hard and its not as wonderful as all the advertising makes it out to be, but there is a way to make it fun and beautiful. Even though there is probably a toddler screaming at you right now as you read this, all because his favorite color is blue and he can't figure out why, or that his sister wont stop copying him so now they are throwing very heavy toys in each-others direction. Or the 4 kids decided they want to make your life as difficult as possible today so they are teaming up to see how long it will take you to lose your mind. I'm here to be realistic and tell you that parenting is extremely difficult and it takes a ton of work all the time whether you like it or not, and only parents understand this. Especially after working a 60 hour week and needing to drive more energy into family when it seems there's nothing left to give, Its like a diaper commercial showing a mom and dad gently getting done changing a diaper and cuddling after and watching their beautiful child run around the house with sparkles in their eyes and a cool breeze gently flowing through the child's hair. Yeah... Right... When realistically if it was one of us, the commercial would be a clip of us yelling to stop because our kid crapped in the diaper and is running away from us wiping it on as many walls as possible and thinks its hilarious.

So for all my fellow dads and moms,
It sucks sometimes,
We all know that, and its okay to feel that way,
Lets make it awesome and create some memories, i'll share with you some of the ideas and creativity that my kids love, that will be fulfilling and lots of fun.
Oh, and lastly, the key to all of this, don't take life too seriously.
